Inauguration Day: Live Updates
8:30 PM, January 20
President Biden has been busy since his taking the oath of office. First, the President and Vice President visited Arlington National Cemetery, along with the still living former Presidents, with the exception of Donald Trump (who left for Florida) and Jimmy Carter (who could not attend the events).
President Biden later heads off to the White House, as VP Harris heads off to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where many of the VP’s staff works (CNN). Joe Biden signed many executive orders in his first day in office. Those notably included rejoining the Paris Climate Accord and rejoining the World Health Organization (WHO).
At the first Biden White House briefing, the new White House Press Secretary showed that the President worked on COVID, economic relief, climate, racial equality, LGBTQ, and ensuring government works for the American people. We can expect to hear her press conferences daily during the week. Celebrating America is at 8:30PM hosted by Tom Hanks. After Lady Gaga’s singing of the anthem, Kamala Harris was sworn in as Vice-President of the United States. Jeniffer Lopez performed “This Land is your Land.”
“The sun is shining,” said Amy Klobuchar, in her speech after the VP’s oath of office.
President Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. has been sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, alongside Vice President Kamala Harris.
President Biden has also given his Presidential Address, which we will talk about in our Post Inauguration analysis. Follow the live updates for the rest of the day.

President Trump left Washington on Air Force One for the last time in his presidency, and is headed to Florida, where he will live. He spoke before his flight about the accomplishments of his presidency, and flipped the negative note of the Nation’s crisis to a positive vote, not reflecting on the pandemic. He also did not mention the name of the President-Elect officially. President Trump will not attend the inauguration.
President-Elect Biden has just arrived at the capital after attending the morning church service before the inauguration. Senators, Congressmen, ambassadors and more have already poured onto Capitol Hill. The President- Elect is currently in the Capital, and will be sworn in. Less than 90 minutes from now, America will have a new President.
The Senate will meet at 4:30 PM today, most likely swearing in Senators Elect Raphael Wornock and Jon Ossoff and discussing further actions for impeachment.
Celebrate America will be a concert hosted by Tom Hanks tonight to honor the new President. It will happen at 8:30, and our live updates will continue through that time.

Today is January 20th. Inauguration day for the President-Elect who will become president in less than five hours. Here is a breakdown of the pre-inauguration news:
President Trump will be the first living president not to attend his successor’s inauguration. CNN says that Trump could be in Florida by the time of the official ceremony. The President is expected to make a speech at Joint Base Andrews, where reportedly, he will fly on Air Force 1 to his residence, Mar A Lago, West Palm Beach, Florida.
President-Elect is set to attend a church service with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, who will become Minority Leader in the evening, Chuck Schumer, soon to be Majority Leader, and Nancy Pelosi, the Speaker of the House. House Minority and Majority Leaders are planning to attend as well. (CNN)
Biden’s Cabinet nominees had hearings in the Senate yesterday, and are set to be approved soon, although the precise date is unknown. Reportedly, Joe Biden will get right to work tonight, passing executive orders and trying to write legislation. (CNN)
