As the demand for tickets to concerts rises, the prices skyrocket and the number of fans able to afford and obtain them plummet. Regardless of if the customer signs up for presale or attempts to get general admissions, it seems almost impossible to get through the waiting queue to even attempt to purchase tickets. If the customer manages to make it through the queue, the prices become outrageous, and there are limited seating options. Experiencing music in a live setting can be eye opening and electric for fans, however with the circumstances to purchase tickets, obtaining tickets has become impractical.
With escalating numbers of bot attacks, there is a scarce amount of seats left for fans to purchase. Ticket bots use software that executes automated tasks, meaning this technology is able to buy tickets faster than humanly possible. Along with bots, ticket sale sites can not handle the staggering number of people trying to buy tickets. During the infamous Eras Tour Presale for Taylor Swift’s concert on Ticketmaster, there were 3.5 billion total system requests, 4 times more than Ticketmaster’s peak.14 million people tried to purchase tickets during presale, which crashed the site (“Taylor Swift”). The websites made for selling tickets are unable to keep up with the high demand.
This leaves resale sites as the only option for desperate fans to buy tickets. Fans go on the website expecting a bit of an increase in price from resellers, but not unattainable. Yet once they arrive at the site, they are met with insane prices that average people cannot afford for a singular concert ticket. A ticket that was first sold for around a hundred dollars has now been raised to thousands of dollars. This is the result of robots purchasing many tickets to sell, in order to make a fortune by charging people an appalling amount. Even average people lucky enough to secure tickets during sale on major sites decide to resell their tickets they initially bought for normal price for upwards of $5,000 each. This insane upscale makes it impossible to even re-buy tickets in many instances, yet there are ways to increase your chance of getting tickets.
To ensure a better chance to secure tickets, you can sign up for presale to receive an early access. This allows you to get emails of reminders and a chance to get tickets a few days prior. While the tickets are still limited, there is an increased chance you secure them during presale because less people will be logged on at this time. Additionally, you can get on the site in advance the day of the sale. It’s recommended to get on the site 10-15 minutes before so you are there exactly when the sale begins. While there is no way to ensure you get tickets, you can be prepared when the sale drops and have a better chance to see your favorite artists live.
