This Friday, the Fairfield Ludlowe Drama Club will be presenting Big Fish, the musical adaptation of Daniel Wallace’s captivating novel! The musical tells the story of Edward Bloom–a man who lives his life through fairy tales and has a hard time accepting his impending death–and shows how he’s perceived by the people who love him. While his wife Sandra is enchanted by his stories, Edward’s son, Will, wishes that his father would show him who he really is before he passes, leading to major conflict between the characters. Through fantastical musical numbers and a diverse cast of characters, Big Fish looks back on Edward’s adventures and illustrates the importance of having imagination.
Director Christy McIntosh Newsom says that “while, at its heart, it is a story about a father and son, it’s also a love story and a celebration of those larger-than-life moments that become a part of your family history. In Big Fish, that happens to include a circus run by a werewolf, a mermaid, a tap dancing general, a fortune-telling witch, and a giant! This is that rare show that can make you cry tears of both heartbreak AND joy!” With an incredible set designed by Sophie Bardos and costumes designed by Maggie Meath, alongside over 30 hardworking student crew members, this musical is sure to dazzle audiences of all ages!
FLHS Drama Club is thrilled to welcome back a student based pit orchestra. Led by Orchestra Director Nick Albano, the pit features over twenty student musicians from all grades, performing music that truly encapsulates the fantasy and whimsy of Big Fish. With the hard work of choreographer Andrea Metchick, Lighting Designer Eli Newsom, and Sound Design by Sam Eckhardt and FLHS alumnus Ried Fitter, this musical has shaped into something truly incredible. Musical Director Kimberly Sadler states that “this collaborative effort will showcase the strength of our Drama Club at FLHS and highlights the teamwork and commitment of all involved.”
